Theraplay®

Therapy

Theraplay® Overview:

Theraplay® is an engaging, relationship-focused method of working with children that is interactive, personal, playful and fun. Principles are based on attachment theory and its model is the healthy, attuned relationship between parents/carers and their children - the kind of interaction that leads to secure attachment and improved mental health.

Theraplay® activities enhance attachment between child and parent directly by bringing them together and encouraging and practicing playful, attuned, responsive interactions that build more secure relationships.

We Offer formal Theraplay sessions® which include the MIM assessment with the parent and child as well as recorded play sessions either with child and therapist or including parent. We advise a minimum of 8 sessions depending on outcome desired. Sessions will be held in our playroom near St Agnes.

Additionally Theraplay® techniques are infused in all interactions with children. We use Daniel Hugh’s working ethos of being accepting, curious, empathetic, loving, and playful when with children. The joy of the time spent with a child enriches life. They teach us to be in the moment and we need to allow ourselves to be with them in the moment and experience reciprocal pleasure. Theraplay® enables this to happen.

Benefits:

Theraplay® can improve a child’s behaviour in unique ways. Using the therapeutic benefits of joyful play and sensitive care-giving, Theraplay® focuses on strengthening relationship with a child, enhancing a sense of connection and mutual understanding so that a child no longer needs to resort to problem.

With the help of the therapist, skilled at changing what may seem to  permanent negative dynamic between adult and child, we will experience delight and enjoyment in each other, and the child will become more responsive to positive parenting.
